Truth and Beauty

What is its measure?
A golden rule
From bold strokes of strong lines
Dissecting subtle underlay of color
In perfect proportion in perfect skill
And the sheer art of it
Wrenches us to stand in awe
And the sheer art of it
The subtle lies it speaks
In perfect proportion in perfect skill
The pleasure of it painted
Then tainted
Because it could not go that far –
Not far enough to show
Where the heart lay
Despite the perfect plan
Each point – precision highlight
Each final shadow ruled
And the sheer art of it
In perfect proportion in perfect skill
What is its measure?
A golden rule
Of beauty and truth
Where no formula may?
