A time when the clamoring stopped

There once was I can recall
A time when the clamoring stopped

The harmonies of the world
its measures and beats bated
winds paused in their purpose
the living stopped their breath
and all celestial measurements
compressed into a single point

It was the first light
It was the first silence
And it rang bright
And it rang clear
And all was stopped

Out of that briefest bright silence
There floated glowingly–Voice

A note of pure and crystal quality
that reflected each sharp point of heaven
and left every aural remnant still
And so did creation by itself renew

Then and then with rigor and precision
That emanation from the void and cold
Carried Truth–All creation would cease
Had it not this voice in it
